AIA Expo2012 Hours

Kawneer and Traco will be in attendance to explore the expo's theme of "DESIGN CONNECTS" and will feature a wide range of products and solutions from both companies in their combined exhibit space (booth 1429), including their newest ultra thermal, sun control and window offerings.
 
This year we will be among the limited number of exhibitors taking part in classroom education on the AIA Expo2012 show floor. The recently added CES Theatre program allows us to provide accredited education to show attendees looking to gain AIA Continuing Education System credits. We invite you to join us on Thursday, May 17 from 10:30 to 11:30 in Classroom B to earn a full learning unit credit and to take an exclusive look at Thermal Barriers in Aluminum Fenestration Systems. The session will be presented by Henry Taylor, Kawneer’s Architectural Service Team manager and chairman of the Building Envelope Contractor Committee.

Opportunities for Shading in Division 8: Glass & Glazing - How to harvest daylight and minimize solar heat gain is a critical part of designing today’s energy efficient buildings. Attendees will discover how shading with Division 8 products can play a major role.
 
Steel Framing Systems for Design and Safety: This program will examine steel curtain framing system design options and capabilities including increased structural capacity, fire protection and defense against radiant heat. The session will also discuss specific structural conditions, especially life safety issues, when steel solutions are preferred for their ability to exceed the capability of aluminum.
 
Commercial Window Options and Performance: Attendees will be given an introduction to navigating through the wide range of commercial window products offered today. This session will explore and discuss the differences between the many configurations and performance levels of commercial windows.

Kawneer attended the 2011 BEC Conference, where Henry Taylor, Kawneer’s Architectural Services Team Manager and Chairman of GANA’s BEC division acted as host.  The conference, held March 27–297 in Las Vegas, served as an opportunity for subcontractors, suppliers and contractors to gather and discuss market trends and influences. Kawneer continued its Gold sponsorship at this year’s conference and has been a major sponsor of the conference for several years.
 
In addition to Kawneer sponsoring the Glass Week/BEC Conference Joint Reception, Diana Perreiah, General Manager, Kawneer North America and VP, Alcoa Building & Construction presented the topic “State of the Aluminum Industry” during the general session on opening day of the conference.

2009 Kawneer/AIAS National Student Design Competition
 
Architecture Stars of the Future Design a Library for the 21st Century with LEED Certification in Mind
 
The fourth annual national student design competition, sponsored by Kawneer and administered by AIAS, challenges students to learn about building materials, specifically architectural aluminum building products and systems, in the design of a municipal courthouse The competition is open to all students of architecture and design in North America, with winning students/teams and their AIAS chapter receiving cash prizes totaling $7,225, including $2,500 for the winning design.
 
Three winning designs and three honorable mentions will be selected by the competition’s jury, and winners will be announced December 21, 2009 via the AIAS website (www.aias.org/kawneer ). The winning projects will be exhibited at the AIAS Forum 2009 in Minneapolis, December 29, 2009 – January 1, 2010, and at the AIA 2010 Convention and Design Exposition in Miami, June 10 – June12, 2010. In addition, the winning entries will be published in the Spring 2010 issue of Crit, the Journal of the AIAS and the AIAS chapter at each school will also receive a cash grant.
 
The registration deadline for the competition is Wednesday, October 14, 2009 and all entries must be submitted by Friday, December 4, 2009.
