The refurbishment of Kinnaird House features Kawneer’s GT70 aluminium windows, which replaced the original 1920s steel windows. The building provides approximately 97,500 sq ft of brand new, high quality office and restaurant accommodation within the original retained facade.
Trehearne Architects had selected Kawneer’s GT70 windows because of their slim sightlines, which enable them to closely resemble the characteristically elegant lines of traditional steel windows. To mimic the original fenestration, the architect concealed most of the aluminium frame behind the masonry reveal. The rest of the casement was made up of ‘plant on’ extrusions, specially designed to match the original windows as closely as possible. As well as retaining the aesthetics of traditional steel windows the GT70 window also offers aluminium qualities, such as superior thermal insulation, design flexibility and low maintenance requirements.
