Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Community Center
Onamia, Minnesota, USA
A modern gathering place for the local community, the District 1 Aquatic and Fitness Center is a multi-use facility that serves the local Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe tribe in Onamia, MN. The two-story, 67,317-square-foot community center includes a full-size gymnasium, indoor aquatics area with three pools, fitness area, multipurpose rooms, commercial kitchen, locker rooms, offices and an exterior splash pad.
Creating a pleasant and inviting communal space was a major focus of the project. Kawneer's curtain wall and window systems create a bright, attractive space for indoor exercise. Its high-performing thermal entrances provide a barrier between the interior and the outdoor elements, helping to ensure the building is a comfortable temperature even during Minnesota's extreme winters.
