CE Marking
CE Marking
A significant change in the way construction products are sold in Europe
The Construction Products Regulation (CPR) replaces the Construction Products Directive (CPD) and under the CPR CE Marking of construction products will be a requirement from 1st July 2013.

CE Marking of products within the European Union is used by manufacturers to indicate that their products conform to the requirements of specific European technical standards. For the purpose of the CPR a manufacturer is a company who manufactures and assembles windows, doors and curtain walling.

CE Marking is a ‘passport’ which allows a product to be placed legally on the market in any European member state.

CE Marking under the CPR is mandatory if a product is covered by a harmonised European Norm (hEN) or a European Technical Assessment (ETA). The requirements for windows, doors and curtain walling are covered by the following harmonized standards:

  • BS EN 14351-1:2006+A1:2010. Windows and doors – Product standard

  • BS EN 13830 Curtain Walling – Product Standard

Annex ZA contained within the above standards outline the requirements for CE Marking.

In addition to CE Marking the manufacturer must also issue a ‘Declaration of Performance’ for the product being supplied.

The following documents offer guidance for CE Marking and Declaration of Performance under the Construction Products Regulations and outline the requirements for the documentary evidence needed to demonstrate that the products comply with the essential requirements contained within the standards.
