There are three sections of inputs. In the "Building" section, you'll input some basic information about the building, location, glazing area to be shaded, and cost of providing cooling energy. If you have questions about any of these inputs, you can click on the input name to display help. The Climate Data input's default setting is "Clear Sky Condition", but city-specific climate data is also available which takes into account average available sunshine for that particular location.
The next input section is for the two shading scenarios you wish to compare. You can choose whether or not the blades cover the entire window area or just part of if, and then details of the blade geometry. Again, you may click on inputs label to display help.
After you've entered the input data, click the "Calculate" button (two are provided for convenience), and the output data will be displayed. The outputs include a table with the shading, energy, and economic performance of the two scenarios, relative to unshaded windows, plus a summary of the inputs. There are also two charts, one for each scenario, with hourly shading throughout the year. You may then adjust any of the inputs and click the "Calculate" button again to recalculate the outputs.
